Hi everyone
I am reaching out to you all with a sensitive subject..life has been hard lately, and my son Tim needs help. You all know what a kind and sensitive boy he is, but what you don't know is that he has been battling some pretty crippling anxiety and depression for the last several years. These struggles have affected every part of his life, from getting out of bed in the morning to going outside, from staying in school and keeping friendships, to simply feeling safe in his own body.
We have tried therapy, counseling, medications, and different support systems, and we are still doing those things; but so far nothing has brought him a sense of comfort, stability or the confidence he needs to function daily.
However, after speaking to his doctors and doing some research and a lot of talking, we have found one thing that might mean all the difference in the world to him, something that can change his life-a trained psychiatric service dog.
A psychiatric service dog is more then just a pet or an emotional support animal, it's a medically recommended lifeline. They are trained to:
Interrupt harmful thought patterns and panic attacks
Provide grounding during emotional episodes
Remind him to take medications and complete necessary daily routines
And offer constant companionship and security.
This kind of support can help Tim get his independence back and have the future that for the last several years hes been too afraid to reach for.
The cost of the dog is where we hit a roadblock. Unfortunately this is not something that insurance covers, which is absolutely insane to me. If I felt like I had time to save up and do this, I would. But we need this soon! I don't have the time.
So I'm humbly asking for your help. Every dollar gets us closer to giving Tim a chance to live, not just survive. Tim has a way with dogs. They are drawn to him, and bring him so much comfort. He got to meet one of these dogs recently and it was the first genuine smile I've seen in far too long. He was so happy!
If you're not able to donate, please share with your friends and community, it can help more then you know.
Thank you so much for reading this and caring. I'll provide updates and pictures as things progress.
