A couple of weeks ago, he went to the University of Florida's vet school to see what could be done to strengthen his leg, since he seemed to be getting more unsteady. In the course of the exam and subsequent xrays, they discovered a chronic fracture in his remaining hind leg. This fracture occurred in the same accident that resulted in his left leg amputation but no one noticed and he just coped the best he knew how. A surgery was quickly scheduled to remove the head of the femur, which was the location of the fracture (called a femoral head osteotomy). The surgery went great and Tigger came home on Sept 23. In most dogs, this surgery and recovery would be relatively simple. But because Tigger is a tripod, he will face a longer and more difficult recovery since he only has the one rear leg to put weight on.
So many friends have reached out to see if they could financially help get Tigger back on his 3 feet. His xrays, CT scan, and surgical costs came to $2,958.42 but he will also need extensive rehab at the UF vet school. Those costs are still to be determined but in the meantime, we'll be grateful for any donations to help out. If we happen to raise more than the cost of his surgery and rehab, then anything leftover will be donated to Haile's Angels Pet Rescue, which is the group that got him out of the shelter.
Thanks so much for reading Tig's story! He can't stand up for himself right now so he needs all the help he can get!
