Thunder cuddling with Lauren

Where Thunder was found near the freeway.

Hello fellow animal lovers!
We are Karmen and Lauren, mental health therapists and devoted animal enthusiasts from Northern California. While we typically work with people, our latest focus is on helping a new friend, Thunder. Here’s his story:
One morning, while walking her dog, Karmen heard a small animal crying from a wooded area near the freeway. Although she couldn’t see where the cry was coming from, she promised to return after an appointment she had scheduled to search further. When she returned, after trekking up a steep hill, then under a fence, in some dense brush she found the source of the sound and discovered a tiny gray kitten. Recognizing his need for help, she brought him home, gave him food and water, and settled him into a quiet space before texting Lauren.
Lauren, a huge cat lover, was thrilled when she saw the kitten’s photo. They quickly decided to meet that evening. As they were sitting with this tiny kitten on the bathroom floor, they found he was covered in fleas and tiny stickers. As they were combing out the stickers and encouraging him to eat, they discussed names and decided on "Thunder," a fitting choice for his mighty meow and vibrant spirit. As they continued to sit with him, they also noticed his back legs seemed weak. Despite his appetite, playful nature, and loud purr, they suspected he might have a condition called Swimmers Syndrome, which could be corrected with physical therapy.
The next day, they took Thunder to the vet, hoping for a simple treatment plan. However, unfortunately, the vet's examination revealed that both of Thunder’s back legs were broken and his left hip was dislocated. Surgery was deemed necessary, and the vet warned it would be complicated and costly. Though disheartened, they decided to give Thunder every chance to recover. His personality and spirit had already convinced them that he deserves this chance to live a full and healthy life.

Thunder is about 8 weeks old, with an old soul and a spunky personality. We believe deeply in (and have witnessed) his will to survive and his desire to live life to the fullest. Thunder purrs so loudly that his whole body vibrates! He is both playful and affectionate, soaking up every bit of love and cuddles he can get. With his beautiful spirit and vibrant energy, Thunder is a sweet and special little guy with a lot of life ahead of him.
We are seeking support to fund Thunder’s surgery and care. We’ve found a loving couple eager to adopt him once he recovers, ensuring he’ll have a caring home.
We completely understand that times are tough, but any contribution, even $1, would be so very much appreciated. If you're unable to contribute financially at this time, sharing this post with your network would help immensely.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for your support! We will keep everyone posted with progress and more adorable photos and videos of Thunder as we move along!
