Give Thor a Fighting Chance

On Monday evening, December 29, our family's hearts were shattered. While my husband was out on a walk with the kids and dogs, our dog Thor was hit by a truck.

My husband (Justin) directed his focus for less than a minute on helping our daughter with her bike, and in that moment, Thor managed to slip into the road. When Justin realized what was happening, he ran out into the street, waving his arms, trying desperately to stop the oncoming truck.
The truck did not slow down until after striking Thor. Justin had to literally jump out of the way to prevent getting hit himself. The truck struck Thor, didn’t brake until after impact, and then drove away — leaving my husband alone in the road with our critically injured dog and our mortified, screaming daughter and baby, trying to hold everything together.

I arrived within minutes to get the kids so Justin could rush Thor to emergency care in Loomis. Strangers pulled over, offering help, prayers, and comfort in one of the darkest moments of our lives. We will never forget the kindness of this community. It wasn’t until 40ish minutes later, when I was waiting with the kids for a ride on the side of the road, that a woman pulled up and told me she was the one who hit my dog.

Thor is currently fighting for his life in the ICU at Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic. He suffered a fractured skull and internal bleeding, along with multiple wounds that required incisions above his eye, on his side, and on his tail. Right now, our biggest concern is the internal bleeding. His blood count has been steadily dropping — about 5% each day. It needs to stay between 40–50%, but yesterday it fell to 25%. But, he is stable and resting. We cannot focus on any of the other injuries until the internal bleeding gets under control. A blood transfusion comes with serious risks, so we are praying he can stabilize on his own so doctors can continue treating his other injuries.

This road is long, painful, and uncertain — but Thor keeps showing us signs of hope. He hears us when we visit. He shows us with a flinch or movement when he hears our voices. It breaks my heart to witness him in this condition that he so much doesn’t deserve to be in. He keeps fighting. And as long as he keeps fighting, we will fight for him.

His medical bills have already exceeded $11,000, with more care still needed. Asking for help is not easy, but I cannot let finances decide whether Thor gets to live if he is showing us slight improvements each day. So, here I am, asking our community for help so we can focus on one thing: giving Thor a fighting chance.

Anyone who has ever met Thor knows he is special. He has a way of stopping people in their tracks — not just because of his beauty, but because of his calm, gentle soul. He is patient, affectionate, and deeply bonded to our family. Thor isn’t “just a dog.” He completes our family and he deserves a fighting chance. I’m not ready for him to leave

Please — if you can — help us save him.
No donation is too small. Every share matters. And if you’re unable to give financially, please pray for Thor. We believe deeply in the power of prayer, love, and community.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us in this painful, hopeful, and unimaginable moment.
