Help a Newborn Filly With Cataract Surgery To Save Her Life

Donation protected
A close family friend of mine is facing an impossible decision.

Their newborn filly was just brought into the world, but instead of a long, healthy life ahead of her, she’s at risk of being euthanized. She was born with congenital cataracts, leaving her vision severely impaired. Right now, she can only see partially and without treatment, her condition will only worsen.

Because of this, she’s been labeled a “money pit.” Without intervention, she will not be given the chance to grow up at all.

But there is hope.

We found a veterinary hospital that can perform a specialized surgery, similar to cataract correction in humans, that can restore her vision. In young horses, this procedure has about an 87% success rate, giving her a real chance at a full, healthy life.

The problem is timing.

This surgery must happen while she is still very young. If we wait too long, her chances of recovery drop significantly.

Where the funds will go:
$10,000 for life-saving eye surgery
Post-surgery care & medication
Recovery support and essential care

Our total goal is $15,000 to give her the best possible chance.

A barn has generously been secured for her recovery, helping reduce costs, but we still need help covering the critical medical expenses and early care that will keep her alive.

Why this matters

She’s just beginning her life. She hasn’t had the chance to run, to see clearly, or to experience the world the way she should.

This isn’t just about surgery; it’s about giving a newborn animal a chance to live the life she deserves.

How you can help

If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, it truly makes a difference.

If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser could help us reach someone who can.

Together, we can give this filly a future.

Update: The filly has been named Hope. She has officially made it to her new home and is settling in with a nanny mare named Penny. She hasn't taken to a bottle or a bucket yet so we are feeding her with a syringe.
