Hi I am Emma the writer and creator of all this, firstly thank you for taking the time to read this, I invite you to watch the video to really get a sense of what I'm about and the project.
I have been an actor and creative for the last ten years or more, a creative at heart, and an artist by soul. Music is what keeps me alive. I have trained in sound healing as well as training in transpersonal therapy to then help others. This show has been created from my soul and holds many important messages within it, universal to us all. If you have heard me sing live then you will know this has been created from a place of authenticity. And by using own personal life experiences, bringing much needed topics to light.
Main topics like childhood, parenting, repercussions of early life experiences in adult life, societies views on parenting, mental health, and how that's treated in society and within the medical system.
Things over the last 4 years have been the hardest of my life. After getting almost wiped out by big pharma, with a medication ( given for tinnitus ) going very wrong and causing brain damage amongst much other hell. This journey lead me to being mis diagnosed and pulled through 3 psych wards in the space of 6 months. Harm from medication is not yet recognised in our medical world, so I was labeled crazy and locked up. Like some sort of archaic horror film that became my life. Of course medication has it's place..I know its helps people too, however there is a shadow behind everything..and it doesn't always help in the way we would like. I got medicated up to my eye balls, so much so I almost died.
By pure miracle I came out of it all.. The story is a wild one! And it truly was a miracle that I came back to tell the tale. I spent a good 6 months in a psychosis, thinking I'd never return. What was birthed after this was much art, and many realisations, life perspectives and universal world messages, ready to burst out of me.
Alchemy.
I came to find that my story was not as uncommon as you would think, in fact many are left suffering just like I was...
However the show and music is not all about this, it's really about life..
The show Shaping Us is a very real journey, following a flawed human, on a hero's journey, a journey we are all on, the souls path. Told from truth, with music written by me through out. Her journey starts from an extensively tough upbringing, showing how childhood shapes us, and the repercussions of that in adult life. The effects of Narcissism, and showing how it's the subtle but not so subtle behaviours that leave a lasting mark. With much Narcissism currently growing in society today, we need feelings more than ever!
Parenting and support for parents is not taken seriously or talked about in our society, and as we all become more separate in this digital world, many parents are isolated and lost. The importance of healing trauma before having children is often dismissed and completely neglected in our modern world. This story shines a light on this, with a darkly comedic slant. How trauma creates trauma, and if we don't break the chain with us, it will carry on. Showing why parenting and childhood is incredibly important. This all leads to many becoming ill, in mind or in body, therefore being medicated and becoming part of the medical system, which is not a healthy system either. To talk about the dark and bring it to light, to validate, to inspire and to leave us with questions? How can we do better? How can we break the chain..
The music - So the recording of 3 songs element of this, is due to the show involving music I have written, is to get the tracks recorded in a studio, these tracks connect to the show and it's entire theme, it is basically the sound track and they feature in the show in their own way. The 3 tracks all have different flavours, light and dark. The music sings about universal challenges in this world, it's there to connect us.
What will the money be spent on ?
1. To get the show up for a decent run in a theatre, ( smaller production initially with plans to take it further onwards to more theatres ) location could be London or Devon depending on costs, to pay for the space, lighting, marketing, sound, art, props and the director I have workshopped this with already to be that outer perspective and support. She's awesome. The duration would depend on what space I find, my intention is to get it on and to invite further collaborators to expand it further, and the dream is to get it shown in somewhere bigger, like Soho Theatre, to get the show into the ether. The show aims to be 1 hour to 1.5 hours long.
2. To get the music professionally recorded with the instrumentation done for real. Collaborating with local musicians in Devon. Mastered and mixed well by good people here. So that the tracks are ready to be shared on all platforms. One of the tracks ' What if I died in the Psych Ward, no chance of the truth anymore ' is to feature with a music video, to create greater impact. The music connects to the themes of the show and the threads run through and intertwine between both.
Deadline for both ideally to be achieved and shown is this year 2025, however depending on the funder and how much I raise this could be 2026.
3. What would you get from donating? A ticket to the show. And to be filled in with the projects movements. And any prior access to the music when it's finished.
Lastly.. there is a documentary in its final stages called 'What's Up Doc?' that has been created by a talented pair, who saw my journey and said we must tell this story, and how is this really happening? This doc is more towards the medical system and it's over prescribing of medications. It includes some great interviews with important people. So just to add that, because these projects all intertwine into one of greater universal importance.
Doing this funder feels scary, to ask for help, however if I don't try then I could be sat here for quite some time. The nature of all this has meant my life has been one of pure survival in the last 4 years, navigating how to pay the rent, whilst healing from nervous system and brain damage! It's been a terrifying financial mountain. Full of risks and sharp edges. And it is really only now I feel psychically well enough to do a show on the stage, and to really put all this into action.
Thank you to anyone that feels called to donate, it warms my spirit like a fire on a cold day heh heh. I know money is tight for many, so no hard feelings, however I know some may potentially have some spare to put into an important cause.
Art matters, creativity matters!
.. and I'm the kinda girl that gets things done! It is only ever funds that holds me back!
