Our Story: Securing a Brighter Future for Rajo Academy's Youth

At Rajo Academy, we're committed to transforming lives through sport. Our mission is to empower Somali youth by providing a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive both on and off the football field. These children, often facing harsh realities of violence and poverty, find refuge, discipline, and community through our programs.

However, our current training conditions are far from ideal. Our young athletes brave a makeshift field strewn with hazards—sharp nails, metal fragments, and broken glass buried in the sand. Cars and motorbikes tear through at alarming speeds, making our training sessions as much about avoiding injury as they are about learning the beautiful game.

Despite these challenges, we envision a safer, dedicated space for our players—a field free from dangers where the only challenges they face are from their peers during matches. We plan to enhance safety by relocating the field further away from roads, improving the quality of the sand, and removing dangerous debris.

Moreover, we were forced to vacate another sand field due to extortion threats from locals demanding money, which would indirectly support harmful habits like khat consumption. The old woman leading this group, ironically the grandmother of one of our players, underscores the complex social challenges we navigate.

We need your help to create a permanent and secure environment for these kids. This includes funding for proper football gear, training equipment, and potentially renting a safer field, as the costs are significant—$20 per hour for a safe venue is beyond our reach without support.

Additionally, the certification needed to formalize our operations and enhance our credibility costs $500, a sum we currently cannot afford. This certificate is crucial for further funding and official recognition.
