Give Tenzin the Gift of Education
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Tom Hasbrouck. A couple of years ago, I was backpacking in Nepal and I became friends with Sonam Thongsowa. He lives in the beautiful Langtang Valley and, like most people in the valley, he is of Tibetan descent.
I was taken by surprise by the extent of the poverty in rural Nepal. The country is very corrupt, and the money rarely gets out of the Kathmandu Valley. The ethnic groups in rural Nepal are impoverished, with an annual household income of under $2,000 U.S. dollars . Public education in the rural ethnic areas is poor to non-existent. It is only a dream for most of their families to send their kids to school. It would take almost all of the family’s income just to send one child to school. It generally costs around $1,400 to $1,700 per year for a private school. It was not uncommon to see a tear from strong men when talking about their children’s lack of a formal education.
We take so much for granted. What may not be much for us is a lot for the people of rural Nepal.
I just thought if we all chipped in, we could change a life. We could help make the dreams of a family possible. Who knows the long-term ripple effect our help could bring?
This will be our third Christmas raising money for Sonam’s son Tenzin’s education fund. He now has two full years of school under his belt. He works hard on his studies and is a beautiful little guy. If we can keep this going, we can really make a difference.
Your donations are making a huge difference in this family’s lives. Let’s keep this going. They have expressed extreme gratitude for your generosity. You have kindled hope and are making a dream possible.
Big love to you all. Thank you for your generosity.
