So anyone who knows Tayla will know she is the most honest and caring young lady anyone would have the pleasure of meeting. What you see is what you get and if you don't like it then that is your own problem - that is how Tayla lives her life!
So why a Go Fund Me Page? Well, the thing you won't know about Tayla is her bravery and ability to carry on regardless.
Earlier this year Tayla went to Guys Hospital in London to have a simple proceedure: to have a biopsy taken from a growth in her jaw, this should have taken a maximum of 20 minutes . It turned into a 9 hour emergency operation as the growth bled and Tayla lost 2 litres of blood, ending up with a tracheostomy and a week in a London hospital. They never did manage to take the biopsy as the tumour was so unstable.
After a long mental and physical journey, today Tayla took the bravest step anyone could by deciding to go ahead and have the life threatening and life changing surgery to have the tumour removed from her jaw. Her surgery would be carried out by a team of 5 consultants not even knowing what they were dealing with.
The surgery yesterday was far more complicated than they thought, a gruelling 16 hours in theatre. A lot more of Tayla's jaw had to be taken away and even part of her tongue. She has ended up having to have part of her leg bone removed to rebuild her chin and jaw, and as a result have skin grafts on her leg, and serious maxillofacial reconstruction.
Although she is still not out of intensive care yet, we know she will now have months of rehabilitation to recover from this trauma and will be unable to undertake any of her normal daily activities, or work, for some time.
Tayla has been unable to pursue her dreams whilst waiting for surgery as the consultant had told her she was a 'ticking time bomb', she could have bled to death at any point. The slightest knock to her jaw could have triggered unrecoverable bleeding.
Tayla's dream is to get show jumping again. In order for her to do this she would love a new jump saddle for her horse, something she wanted to save up for herself.
After discussion with Sue and Mark (Tayla's Mum and Dad) they have agreed to me starting this Page to raise funds for Tayla's jump saddle.
Tayla wouldn't want flowers, she won't be able to eat chocolates and can not have visitors for her 2/3 week stay in Guys (covid restrictions mean that Tayla and her mum are not even allowed out of her room). Even when she comes out of hospital she will be very vunerable to germs and viruses so visitors will be very few.
I am Lily - Tayla's best friend and I thought that it would be a great idea to start this Go Fund Me Page to allow us all to give a little something (even a £1) to go towards an item that Tayla would like and give Tayla a goal to recover for - a saddle fitting will get her better in no time - especially if she is able to have one with pink binding!
Even if we do not reach our target of £2000 to buy a jump saddle and have it fitted then we can at least give something to Tayla to have a shopping spree for her gorgeous horse Fanny.
The last thing we want is for people to think we are begging, so all I am asking is this: If you were going to send Tayla a gift or/and dont know what to send her then why not donate here instead.
Tayla will not know I have done this as she is still in ICU and sedated, only her parents and I have discussed this. Tayla does not 'do fuss' and will be really embarassed that I have done this, but as her friend its the least I can do, I want her home and back in the saddle!
