Give Shirley a Roof Over Her Head
Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family,
I’d like you to meet Ms. Shirley (pictured above with her 17-year-old self). She is a spunky, 84-year-old spitfire of a woman…and she’s homeless!
A little backstory if I may...
My family has known Shirley for decades. She worked with my mom for many years at the local school system in Middlesex County, and they quickly became great friends. They would often “galavant” around and found great joy in running errands together. When our mom passed away in 2015, Shirley was so devastated. Her heart broke the day our mom got her wings. My sisters and I made sure to keep in touch and continued to show her love like we knew our mom would.
Shirley has led a very difficult life.
Not only did she have to bury an infant daughter, she became a widow in her early 40s. With her husband’s job being the only source of income (like so many in her generation), she knew that in order to survive, she had to find work to support herself and her family. And up until last year, work is exactly what she did! For 40+ years!
Health issues forced Shirley to slow down.
She went in to get a pacemaker inserted last summer, spent some months in rehab, was discharged, got re-hospitalized, and went back to rehab.
This all unfortunately led to the loss of her job, and eventually her home.
In between hospital stays/rehab, Shirley did live temporarily with her youngest son. However, it was not the best living situation. In the end, Shirley’s son kicked her out of his home on May 28th. (I will not get into the details regarding this story, as the son is not worth my time.)
Our Plea
We’re seeking help to raise funds to secure a temporary roof over her head (motel/hotel) for at least 3 months, while my sisters and I work diligently to get her state assistance and permanent housing.
For those unaware: The process to get aid is long, tedious, and frustrating. The number of hurdles, roadblocks, and red tape is surreal…and can be so exhausting and discouraging.
If you are willing and able, please help us to support this amazing woman. Share and/or donate! All amounts, however small, will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you…from the bottom of our hearts,
Piano Sisters
