Hello everyone! I am a Mini Dachshund owner of 3 for a little over 9 years. These guys are my babies ! I'm a single mother faced with a really hard situation and I'm looking for ANY help right now.

Anyways this is Roskoe he has IVDD and one night i came home from work to him not moving whatsoever. I took him to the ER, and unfortunately i didn't have $5-6,000 for an MRI or the extra $9-11,000 for possible surgery so $460 later and a whole day of uncontrolable tears from mom, they sent him home with just steroids and gabapentin. I took him to the vet ($253) and they changed the steriod to a more powerful one and doubled his gabapentin and it triggered more positive response out of my boy who went from not moving, to picking his neck up, to now here and there trying to army crawl short distances. Which is AMAZING !! however now I'm more concerned with the fact that he may be possibly doing more damage then good when hes trying to force himself into doing all the things he once loved. He is on strict crate rest but i was told that there could possibly have been a disc rupture and without an MRI we could be doing all of this just to have to restart or get surgery depending on the damage in the discs.. I already had to take the week off of work to be by his side and care for him which $ wise isn't the best i understand that but i was also scared i would have to put him down and was making sure i spent time with him regardless. But now that hes making improvements im still kind of at a loss right now and unfortunately the vets ive taken him to and spent almost a grand on, havent been very helpful at all and ive learned more about his situation and little tips from the internet. I just know getting an MRI is going to be the main source of answers and its tearing me apart knowing that i cant afford it for him even then ive heard great things about laser therapy etc and just want to do the most for him as he deserves the best and has so much more life in himplease.. help me help him on this unexpected path. Anything towards his recovery is appreciated.
