Give Rosa, the Dog in the Woods, a Second Chance at Life

Tax deductible
Please help Rosa!!

UPDATE [2/4]: Rosa has found a full time foster thanks to our efforts and yours sharing this! And, with the agreement of ensuring to cover Rosa's costs through fundraising like this, Perfectly Paired Pitties (P3) has provided her a rescue home despite being closed to intake due to the high volume of medical bills they've recently encountered! That being said, your contributions are now tax deductible thanks to being connected to a rescue so please share and if you can help, please do so!! Thank you so much to all of you who have already done so and reached out trying to help!

Rosa is a beautiful, young, approximately 60lb (with weight to gain) Presa Canario that till this week had been living in a wooded area for at least 5 months. While she was provided some food, she also scavenged and only relied on self-devised sources of shelter. Rosa will need tons of time, incredible patience, and kindness to help her reacclimate to living in a human world. Rosa is named in honor of her dedicated finder who fed her twice a day, ensured she was okay, and sought additional help to catch her.

To ensure Rosa is able to thrive, we are working with a science-based, positive reinforcement-based trainer so that she can be carefully socialized and the ideal home for her identified. The trainer has graciously offered a nonprofit rescue rate of $1800/month if she stays with her. But even that amount is too much for all of our rescues that are already beyond capacity.

Additionally, Rosa needs some medical care. She needs to be spayed (cost at a low-cost clinic like Anacira in Manassas is $350), but more pressing is that she is Lyme and Anaplasmosis positive, both tick-borne diseases, which is unsurprising given her previous forest home, but she will need a month of antibiotics. We are so grateful she is HW negative! She will also need an additional DHALPP booster shot. Given Rosa's time on her own, we also need to be prepared to provide behavioral health support. An initial consult may cost between $550-$675.

Alternately, if you can foster this sweet girl, please reach out to Kelly at [phone redacted].

This sweet girl must get started on the right foot! Saving a dog is always only the first step and we still have a journey before us! Please help if you can!

As we have gotten to know Rosa, we have already seen:
Sweet temperament and affection-seeking (at her pace);
She loves having the top of her head massaged and will nuzzle you for more;
Tolerant of handling;
  • Appears potty trained and crate trained (sleeps in the crate overnight);
  • Extremely intelligent and can be mischievous;
  • A playful girl who loves her toys or will find her own;
  • Chooses flight over fight;
  • Crouches and ducks, sensitive to her environment: sounds, sights, and movement;
  • Decent on leash, other than when pulling out of fear but redirectable and improving each day;
  • Wary of people and dog interested (pulls towards when she sees them);
  • Excellent car companion: happily hops in, will curl up and chill or sit and take the views in, or even sleep.

Please consider helping Rosa! Despite her difficult life thus far, she is incredibly resilient and with a little time, will be an amazing addition to any family.
