Hello,
My name is Bella Bartkovich, one of the many grandchildren of Ron and Cheryl Damata. I am coming here as a last resort to seek some additional support that is needed during a difficult time for my family. Last Year my grandfather , Ronald Damata, was diagnosed with IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), which is a chronic and progressive lung disease that causes Irreversible thickening, inflammation and damage in both of his lungs. This causes him to feel breathless with very basic daily activities such as walking to the kitchen or picking up his grandchildren for a hug. Almost a year ago he was told by doctors he had approximately 2 more years left. Since then we have been trying tirelessly to help him live comfortably while searching high and low for a fighting chance at a better outcome. Countless doctor visits, second opinions, fear, helplessness and many tears have lead us to this moment. Recently, a sliver of hope was offered through an opportunity to move to Pennsylvania and receive a double lung transplant. This would offer him relief of symptoms, increase in endurance and a potential new lease on life. The decision is an easy YES, however, the most difficult hurdle in this opportunity is the cost of living and medical expenses. Following the surgery he must reside in PA 2+ years for ongoing medical follow ups and supervision for optimal recovery. Ronald is always the light in any room he walks into, he cherishes his family beyond comprehension and would do anything to be able to play with, pick up and hold his grandchildren again without being short of breath. As our family grows, he is now the loving grandfather of 7 of us between the ages of 2-30. Married to Cheryl for over 30 years, helping raise Derek and Brenda Bartkovich as if they were his own, then having 2 of his own children, Nichole and Ronald Damata, they would do anything for just a little more time. He is the type of man to take the shirt off of his back for anyone - family, friend or stranger. He is one of the most supportive, loving and generous people to walk this earth and I am asking for help, no matter how small the contribution, even if by sending prayers and love, it all means the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please share.
