Give Reno a Hand Up in His Time of Need

Hey everyone,

I'm putting this together for my dear friend Ronald Smithson—some of you know him as Reno—because right now, he really needs a helping hand. Reno’s not the type to ask for help, so I’m doing it for him because he’s spent his whole life taking care of others, and now it’s time someone took care of him.

Reno is a 76-year-old sweetheart of a guy, the kind of person who always makes you feel welcome. He bartended for years, always quick with a joke or a kind word. If you've ever crossed paths with him, you know the kind of warmth and humor he brings into a room.

But life’s been pretty rough lately.

He has End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and goes to dialysis three times a week, which makes it impossible to hold a full-time job. On top of that, he’s been in and out of the hospital with heart problems, which has taken a toll on both his health and his wallet.

He’s doing all of this while also caring for his adult son, who’s struggling with addiction, and his ex-wife, who he still supports because she’s unable to work or care for herself. That’s just who Reno is—loyal, big-hearted, and always putting others first.

Now, after 17 years in the same home, Reno got a letter giving him just three weeks to move out. He’s scared, overwhelmed, and not sure where to turn. Moving is expensive. Finding a new place isn’t easy. And doing all of this while juggling his dialysis schedule and trying to care for his family? It’s just too much.

He doesn’t even have access to a working computer right now—his broke, and he can’t afford to get it fixed. That’s why I’m making this page for him.

We’re asking for any help you can give, no matter how small. Every little bit will go toward helping Reno secure a new place to live, cover moving expenses, and get some breathing room during an unbelievably stressful time.

He’s not looking for pity. He just needs a hand up, not a handout.
