The Language Hub needs your help!

15 years ago, The Language Hub in Glasgow was established as a not for profit, inclusive language and cultural centre for all. While small at first, the end goal was always to create a holistic space from home for all people within our wider community.

15 years later, as the only centre of its kind in Scotland, the hub had achieved exactly this: A cafe with Scotland's only publicly accessible multilingual lending library, a safe and fair workplace for many linguists and language teachers and a large community of learners and users of all ages and of many languages, all under one roof and its name and services stretching far beyond Glasgow and even Scotland.

Sadly, in December 2025, the hub became a target for the far right. Daily visits from far right supporters asking intrusive questions about who the learners are and how the organisation is financed. In order to have some sort of normality and to keep everyone safe, the easiest and only option was to lock the door and keep the cafe closed so teaching and learning could at least continue.

Unfortunately, this was long term not financially viable and the decision had to be made to vacate the premises at the end of July 2026. The last nine months have resulted in the loss of thousands of pounds as did the move out of the premises. Most of the belongings were given to other charities so they could make use of them.

However, the library with over 6000 books is the hub's community asset and cannot nor should it be just disposed of. Through the help and support of some wonderful people the library is currently stored in three different places across Glasgow; but this is only a short term solution.

While the hub is changing its operational model and is trying to secure funding to rehome the library, any 'go fund me' donations raised will hopefully help to speed up the process as the aim is to have the library back in the community within the next six months. All money raised will go toward securing rent payments, electricity and internet.

Please consider supporting this cause, do not let far right intimidation win and be part of the hub community whose mission has always been and always will be creating healthy communities through intercultural learning opportunities for all.
