**Update on Chewie (will add vet receipts soon )

Chewie came to Nakoma all the way from Manitoba, a brave mama dog with her puppies by her side. She raised her pups, watched them find homes, and then finally — she found her forever home too. But just minutes after adoption, something went terribly wrong.

She started bleeding heavily, passing large blood clots. She was rushed to the vet and then transferred to a 24-hour emergency clinic in Ottawa. Everyone feared the worst — internal bleeding.

Since then, we've done bloodwork, urine tests, X-rays, ultrasound, and now a swab — all trying to find the cause. Her results are mostly normal, but the bleeding still comes and goes. It's not her cycle, and we still don’t have answers.

She’s still spotting blood, and we’re doing everything possible to avoid putting her through exploratory surgery unless we absolutely have to.

Right now, Chewie is stable — happy, sweet, and full of love — but we need to take her to a specialist to finally get answers and help her heal.

My name is Lindsay, I am fundraising for an amazing dog rescue to help relieve some financial strain.

Nakoma rescue needs our help! Many dogs are being rescued from euthanasia, from the fires and from homes that are not suitable and given a second chance/ a comfortable, safe and clean place to lay their head and to run with other dogs until they find their forever people and home. Angel (the owner) and her team take huge pride in caring for these pups, as a volunteer myself, I see how well these dogs are taken care of and how much they are loved and prepared for their forever homes.

Angel and the team are trying to support with dogs rescued from the fires in Manitoba and as all other rescues, they are filling up fast.

There is currently a pup going through an emergency surgery on one of the dogs “Chewie”. Flea and tick meds are also becoming overwhelming, and the vet visits are adding up.
