Poppy was the runt of her litter weighing only 3oz! Born with a cleft palate, a hole between the mouth and the nose. She has had a difficult time gaining weight. Her cleft palate prevents her from eating regularly and increases her risk of dying secondary to aspiration.
Due to the high cost of repair surgery and need for special care. Cleft pups are mostly euthanized because breeders or owners aren’t willing to dedicate the time and money necessary to properly care for a cleft palate puppy.
After being given Poppy's odds at survival. We were told to euthanize her because she would not make it past her 1st month of life. We decided to leave it in the hands of God and take on the challenge.
Despite adversity Poppy has shown time and time again that she wants to live and experience the world. To get her nutrition poppy is given her food via orogastric tube. Poppy now weights 1lb 8oz and is now a candidate for cleft palate repair surgery!
Due to the difficulty of the surgery and the limited oral surgeons who performed cleft repairs. Poppy will have to travel for surgery and it is going to cost 10k. We prayed for a miracle when she was born and she has gotten this far. We do not want to give up on her now!
