Update
Piper has had X-Rays done and luckily the cancer has not progressed to her lungs. The vet has also said that her heart looks good and despite her heart murmur, surgery is still an option. They have also noted that Piper is in excellent health for a dog her age!
Piper is a 13 year old mini dachshund. She has been in my family since day one and has two “brothers” whom she loves more than life. In late March, Piper was diagnosed with mammary cancer. This has been a huge hit to our family, especially me.
Piper was a present to me from my ex husband back in 2011. She was born almost 6 months to the day before my twin boys were. In those months, she became my best friend as I lived in a state far away from my own family and friends because it was cheaper to be closer to my ex husband’s family. Since then, she has been there for me in every heartbreak I experienced.
When my ex husband cheated I me, when he moved a random woman into our family home, when I got the courage and strength to leave him and go back to my family, when I mourned the loss of my marriage and even when I lost my mother, Piper was there for me. There were nights when she would crawl into my arms and sleep there, knowing that I needed her strength to help get me through all of the pain that life brought my way. I truly believe that she is my soulmate.
Now I believe that it is my turn to fight for her and give her the support that she gave me in life, however I am currently disabled and trying to get onto SSI. This means that my disposable income is limited to the TANF that I receive from the government as my ex husband has disappeared and does not pay child support because the government cannot track him down to make him pay. I am turning to the help of friends, family and strangers to try and help save Piper. To give her a chance at having surgery to have the cancer removed. To let her have a chance to live with the family that cannot imagine a future without her just yet.
Thank you to everyone who considers helping my sweet baby girl. I will be eternally grateful to anyone who helps me and my family give her a fighting chance.
