My name is Dani and this is my cat Paul. He is 3 years old and loves playing with string toys, cuddling with his humans, wrestling his brother, sticking his nose over air purifiers, sitting in baskets, and eating treats. Ever since I adopted him in December 2021, he has brought so much energy, love, and joy to everyone he meets.

In December 2024, he started to act very sick. He wasn't eating or playing much and lost a lot of weight. After a myriad of appointments and tests, the vets suspected that dry feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) was the most likely cause of his symptoms. FIP is a very serious disease that was previously 100% fatal in cats, but thankfully a few years ago scientists developed a safe and effective drug (GS-441524) to cure it, which was legalized in the US in June 2024.

My roommate and I were elated to hear that Paul could be cured by this new drug, and I immediately ordered a partial course of his GS-441524 prescription. However, I found out shortly after the purchase that Paul's insurance plan will not cover his GS-441524 treatment due to the drug being so new and not officially FDA approved yet. Without insurance, the full course of treatment will amount to at least $1,650 USD, and more if he gains weight during treatment. He will also need more medical tests during treatment, and there is potential for further medical costs depending on how well this treatment works.

We want to give Paul the best possible chance of having a long, happy, and healthy life, but with vet bills piling up and insurance not covering his treatment, it has been difficult. He means the world to us, and it would crush us to not be able to provide him with the treatment that he needs, but we will need help to do that.
