Give Oleg a Chance to Walk
Donation protected
Oleg and Yarik are identical twins and best friends - they share the same goofy smile, the same brown mop of hair, the same love of life, and the same passion for soccer. Except for one key difference. While Yarik walks across a classroom, Oleg manages a few excruciating steps in physical therapy. While Yarik is tucked into bed, Oleg is strapped into leg braces. And although Oleg faces each day with an unflappable smile, he can only dream of all the things a 9 year old should be able to do. And that dream is fading fast.
Oleg has a musculoskeletal disorder called Spastic Diplegia, a type of Cerebral Palsy. Simply put, Oleg cannot walk on his own. The longer he has this disease, the more deformed his legs become, and with it any hope of becoming independent. He’ll lose the chance to get dress himself, to play soccer with his brother, and to become an independent adult.
Luckily, there’s still hope for Oleg. Oleg has been approved for the surgery called selective dorsal rhizotomy at St. Louis Children`s Hospital. The surgery will be performed by the Professor of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Park, who developed and performed over 4500 surgeries of this type. This surgery removes spasticity, stops the deformation of muscles and joints and eases back pain. With this surgery, Oleg could walk. He would have the childhood his condition has denied him, and a future that up to this point, he could only imagine.
Child's mother Olga , who resides in St.Petersburg, Russia, is my dear friend of 22 years and a former coworker. She is a single mother of three. I started this fundraiser with her full support and approval to raise funds for SDR surgery. I live in USA and have been transferring funds directly to Oleg Dobrov's account at St. Louis Children's Hospital, Missouri, USA. The surgery is scheduled for August 2021 and the account needs to be paid in full by June 15.
So we call on you. Donate, and give Oleg a chance to play with his brother, to stroll with his mother, to explore with his friends, and to seize his future!
