If you’ve ever been lucky enough to meet Niko, then you know he’s not just a dog. He’s magic. He’s the kind of soul that makes people stop, smile, and fall in love. He’s my best friend, my baby, my whole heart. His joy is contagious, his loyalty is unmatched, and his love is unconditional.
A few days ago, Niko suffered a traumatic near-drowning accident that sent his body into shock. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he was put on oxygen and diagnosed with pulmonary edema. Just when we thought things were improving, everything changed.
His breathing crashed. His red blood cell count dropped dangerously low. And now he’s developed pneumonia. It’s serious. His lungs are inflamed. He’s intubated. He can’t breathe on his own. But he’s still here. He’s still fighting.
And I know Niko. He wants to keep fighting. But he needs help.
The vet team is doing everything they can. He’s receiving oxygen therapy, medications, x-rays, a sugar drip, and a blood transfusion to keep going. Every hour in the ICU gives him a fighting chance, but every hour comes at a cost. The bills are climbing into the thousands and it’s more than I can cover on my own.
This is the hardest thing we’ve ever had to go through. Watching him struggle to breathe, seeing him sedated and hooked to tubes, it breaks us. But we won’t give up on him. We can’t.
If you can donate anything, even just a few dollars, you’ll be helping Niko keep fighting. Your support could be the reason he makes it home. The reason he gets to run, play, and cuddle again. The reason we don’t have to say goodbye.
If you can’t donate, please share this with others. The more people who see this, the more hope we have.
Niko isn’t giving up. And neither are we.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Monica and Tyler
