Help Give Needy Children Quality Education in Ghana
Donation protected
In 2010, my mother Mrs Bernice Atubra returned to her home country of Ghana following thirty years abroad. When she returned, she noticed a lack of schools in the poor but vibrant rice farming community of Ho-Kpenoe, where she once grew up. Keen to plug the gap and give children a fighting chance out of poverty, Mrs Atubra started a school. Using her own resources, the school - Henry House International School - has delivered quality education to thousands of primary and Junior High School students.
Last year, the school underwent rebranding with the name changing from Henry House International School to Henry House Community School. Now a not-for-profit school in Ghana, the school currently offers scholarships to 64 students from low-income backgrounds.
This year (18th January 2025), the school is 15 years old and 186 students, aged between 3 and 19, currently attend the school. Committed to ensuring wealth is not a barrier to quality education, the school keeps school fees low.
However this means the school cannot afford to fund some essential items such as whiteboards for every classroom, desks and chairs, new windows, learning materials, a girls' washroom, a new library and a new dining hall. Yet children, irrespective of their ability to pay or not, deserve to learn in a school that is "child, disability and gender sensitive and provide(s) safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all" (SDG4.8).
For us to help Ghana meet the UN SDG4 targets, and be able to continue providing high quality education in our low-income community, we would like to use our 15th anniversary to raise USD$15,000 (£12,610)!
Can you help us?
Your donation, big or small, will transform the lives of innocent Ghanaian children.
