Give Nala a Chance To Walk Again-Surgery Fund Needed

My light, my north star, my joy, my everything—my dear Nala.

On a September day in 2016, Nala came into my life and filled my heart. She was a small, fragile soul found wandering the streets of Lima, Peru, barely 4 years old, carrying the scars of abuse and the weight of a thick metal chain with a heavy lock around her neck. She had escaped captors who had hurt her, and in that moment, I knew I would do everything in my power to protect her.

From then on, we were inseparable. We became each other’s teachers. She showed me patience and unconditional love, and I taught her that trust could be rebuilt, little by little. Wherever I went, Nala was by my side. Together, we sought a fresh start in the United States, hoping for a life filled with peace and love.

It’s been 8 wonderful years since that day, and this September, Nala turned 12. But just a month ago, I noticed her limping, and after multiple veterinary visits, I received the heartbreaking news that she has torn ligaments in both her back legs. My sweet Nala, who once bounded beside me with such joy, now struggles even to walk. She isn’t herself anymore, and it’s a painful reminder of how time is changing her.

To help her regain her life, both her legs need surgery—one at a time. Her left leg must be operated on first, followed by the other in a few months. The procedure, called TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy), is our only hope to give her back the freedom of movement she once had, but it will cost around $12,000.

She isn’t just a dog to me. She is my sunshine, my happiness, my peace, my teacher, and my dearest friend.
