This is my 59-year-old mom, Nadia - a brand new grandmother to my son, Kai. Despite living a healthy lifestyle, she was recently diagnosed with stage three colon cancer. Her doctors have been aggressive in treatment to prevent the cancer from spreading, so she has already undergone rounds of radiation and is now continuing with chemotherapy. As is the case for anyone battling cancer, the medical cost is astronomical and the emotional/mental/physical demand is incredibly draining. Unfortunately, she has had to drastically reduce her working hours. With all of the additional financial stress, my father does what he can to make ends meet.
