Give Myra Bean a Chance to Jump Again

On Wednesday, December 3rd, Myra Bean ran through her Pet Safe GPS fence and was struck by a car. I rushed her to my vet, Dr. Sumny, at the Animal Surgical and Medical Center. She was in shock. After 2 days of being held, she was sore but alive and well and came home. My little miracle. The only long-term damage is a broken femur. It has been a month, with cast changes once a week. At the most recent appointment (this morning), it is still floppy. Her next appointment is December 14, and that is when we will decide how to move forward. Our options at this point, because she's not healing the way she should, are a plate surgery or amputation. I sank my savings into her getting better, but I am out of funds for a surgery. I picked up an extra job to pay for all the cast changes. I am calling everywhere to get pricing for both procedures, but a soft tissue amputation is around $2000, and a plate surgery is between $6000-$8000, plus aftercare.

I adopted Myra Bean from a family who couldn't take care of a puppy and their old dog at the same time. She fell into the pack immediately and blossomed into my little jumping bean. When I brought her home, she was already pregnant and 6 months old. She handled her babies with pride and bounced back from spaying in a day. She is so strong and resilient, sweet and loving, and a bed hog. I know no matter the outcome, she will take it in stride, never complain, and still give every bit of love she has. In an ideal world, she gets the plate surgery and be her jumping bean self, but she'll be just fine with an amputation. I could never imagine my household without her. She is an integral piece of our happy little pack.

At this point in time, I don't know what other options I have.

I have an open case with Pet Safe, actually quite a few because out of 4 collars, only one worked. The day she got hit, I went and purchased an in-ground fence and installed it that night. Pet Safe replaced one collar and told me I can replace the others for 20% off the newer collar price. I had sunk $3000 into the GPS fence and collars/subscriptions (I have 4) that were supposed to work. Whenever there were a lot of clouds, a hurricane, or a snowstorm, they all stopped working. It was the best-rated GPS fence. I am blown away by their (lack of) customer service.

If you can find it in your heart to help this feisty little lady out, in reality, every bit helps.
