Help Murphy Keep His Sight
Hey friends,
I’m reaching out because my sweet dog Murphy needs surgery and I could really use some help.
For those who don’t know me as well, Murphy is weirdly my best friend (truly). We do EVERYTHING together. This dog has been my emotional support and the one thing that kept me going when I didn’t think I could. Murphy continued to look at me like a good mom while I struggled with grief, tough times, and everything in between. Now it’s my turn to be there for him.
A few months ago, Murphy was taken to the vet and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (rare for labs, but who knows what he’s mixed with). I worked hard with support to keep his blood sugar levels managed, but they continued to spike up to 800s at times. Our vet referred us to a specialist, because at this point he was down to 59 lbs and miserable (this is my 75-80 lb baby!)
The week before the appointment, we started seeing vision loss. First, he couldn’t see up close. Then, far away. He has been bumping into so many things, but he’s trying. The hardest part is he loved runnings, chasing, SWIMMING, his toys. Those things are now either not interesting him, slowing him down, or scaring him because he knows he’ll get hurt.
Back to the specialist, though - Right away, it seemed like they put an action plan into place and the first step has appeared to be a success so far! His levels have been much more regulated and seems to be putting some weight on and feeling more cuddly and himself. They explained his vision could be restored with cataracts surgery; however I knew I’d never afford that.
The surgery is expensive, and while I’m doing everything I can to make it happen, I just can’t cover it all on my own (especially with the day to day costs of his insulin and what not).
He’s gotten me through so much and I honestly don’t deserve him! I don’t know what I’d do without him.
If you’re able to donate—no matter how small—it would mean the world to me (and Murphy). And if you can’t, sharing this with others helps more than you know.
Thank you so much for reading and for caring. It means more than you can ever imagine.
Love,
adrienne & Murphy
