Give Morongo Basin Youth a Climbing Chance

Tee and I would like to give local kids the opportunity to go rock climbing. Most families in our area can't afford it. We think local kids and teens deserve a chance to try rock climbing in their own backyard and see for themselves why Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most popular climbing areas in the world.

California Climbing School offers Friday afternoon kids and teen climbing classes that are wildly popular and sold out through 2024. We don't need donations to keep that program going.

Starting in January however, we want to expand by offering classes on Friday mornings and on weekends. To fill these new classes, we are asking for donations to help families in the Morongo Basin send their kids to one 3 hour climbing class.

Every $65 raised will allow another kid to climb. If we reach our goal of $8385 then 125 local kids will get to attend a climbing class taught by one of our highly skilled guides.

The going rate to book a guided climb in Joshua Tree is typically between $100-$400. We charge $65 for our kids classes because we believe local kids deserve to climb. And yet it's still too high for most local families.

Give Morongo Basin kids and teens a chance to experience adventure! It could change their lives, like climbing changed ours!

You never know: a future Olympic climbing champion could find out they love climbing by taking one of our classes!

How the funds will be spent:

$3500 of it will be spent paying the guides: Every class of 5 students will be staffed with a California Climbing School AMGA certified Single Pitch Instructor who gets paid $140 per class (4.5 hrs of work) x 25 classes for a total of 125 kids.

The donations will be spent on:

$400 - 10 helmets

$800 - 20 harnesses for kids, teens and toddlers

$1800 - 30 pairs of rock shoes

$1050 - 6 dynamic ropes

$150 - 60m static anchor rope

$100 - 5 ATC's

$70 - 5 locking carabiners

$350 - 17% of our annual permit fees to the national park

$165 - 6% or our annual liability insurance fee

$3500 - paying the guides $140 per class x 25 classes

$8385 total
