Give Morland a Hand
Hi everyone, thank you so much for taking the time to look at my gofundme page. This is something that I was always uncomfortable doing but it is now time that I must push myself out of my comfort zone and try and acheive getting a Hero Arm.
My name is Morland Evans. I’m 36 years old and was born in County Durham in the North of England. I was brought up in a small town on the outskirts of Durham called Hetton, and lived here for most of my life.
I have three children - Little Morland, Phoebe and Peyton. I enjoy the simple things in life to be perfectly honest. Spending time with family is my greatest love.
I’m an electrician by trade. However, I stopped doing this when I had my accident. I’ve done various jobs since, but never really developed the same passion for anything as I did for electrical work.
I had a car accident when I was 22 years old, which significantly changed my life.
I lost my hand in the crash from the mid forearm. I don’t really remember much when we crashed. I was drifting in and out of conciseness. When they finally freed me from the car I was woken up in hospital to sign a disclaimer for them to amputate my hand. I disagree with this procedure. I certainly wasn’t in the frame of mind to make this decision. Waking up after my opp I didn’t know if they had taken my hand or not. The bandage was the size of a football, the nurse told me and I was left alone for a while. I can’t describe how I felt but I can say that my life hasn’t been the same since. That one decision ruined the best part of my life and it’s still having a departmental impact now. It took me a long long time to get my head straight after the accident and the loss of a limb. I couldn’t say that I’ve dealt with it 100% because it still stops me from doing things every day. I don’t think I will ever feel the same in some sense.
The Hero Arm could potentially change all of this and give me that little bit of normality back that I’ve tried so hard to get.
It would open up so many options for me not just in my professional life but also in my personal life. Hobbies like going to the gym would be so much easier. Just the function of being able to grip again or picking up my daughter properly without the fear of hurting her.
I would say I’ve just put up with what’s been available to me from the NHS. I’m now not willing to do this anymore and believe I deserve the best I can physically get and be the best I physically and mentally can be, not just for me but for my family also again. It’s not just about how this could help me. Me being out of my comfort zone doing this to get an arm will also help inspire someone else who hasn’t also got the confidence to reach out and ask for help
I am raising funds for my Hero Arm through The Open Bionics Foundation. Every penny raised will go towards my Hero Arm. Every donation will help. Thank you in advance for contributing to this cause, which means so much to me.
