Give moose a fighting chance to survive

Hi everyone meet moose! Moose is a 5 month old Pitt mix that my boyfriend and I rescued from a pretty bad situation. Moose spent his first 4 months with his mom and sister living outside with no shelter other than a dog house. The only human interaction he ever really had was when they got fed which didn’t happen anywhere close to as often as it should. Moose was the healthiest and biggest pup of the litter but after 4 months his health deteriorated quickly. He quickly became very sick and malnourished. My boyfriend and I finally decided to take moose when we witnessed moose have an attack where he was gasping for air, turning purple and nearly collapsing. After bringing moose to the emergency medical center on bridge st and paying $380 to be told we had to put him down or pay $5,000-$7,000 to treat him and going to Cornell to spend another $600 who diagnosed him with pneumonia and said he had a very low rate of survival. After a week and a half of antibiotics he continued to have his attacks. About a week and a half later We brought moose to another vet to have him put to sleep as these attacks were absolutely horrific and since we did not understand why they were happening or how to stop them we didn’t think it was fair to make moose go through this any longer. however while standing in the parking lot of the vet I looked into moose’s eyes and instantly had one of the most intense feelings in my gut that I have ever felt telling me that I had to fight for this dog and that I shouldn’t give up on him quite yet. I then turned to the vet and asked him how much he would charge me to do some X-rays. He told me the price and then he and his vet tech spent the next 4.5 hours doing whatever they could to try to figure out what moose’s issue was. Finally at 11:30pm we had a probable diagnosis. I was beyond thrilled to finally get some answers for moose. Moose has an elongated soft palate which blocks his airways whenever he gets overly excited. This is what causes his “attacks” when he has an attack which typically last anywhere from 15-20 minutes his muscles contract and his airway gets almost totally cut off, moose’s blood oxygen level drops to a fatal level and just when moose is about to loose consciousness his muscles relax which reopens his airways and he miraculously comes out of the attack. It is a miracle that moose has survived this long since he literally comes face to face with death everytime he has an attack yet his tail never stops wagging. Moose is truly a fighter and We are thrilled to know that this is a common issue and can be fixed quite easily with surgery however after spending $1,200 trying to diagnose the issue we have exhausted all of our financial resources. We are asking for your help to continue to fight for moose as he is soo close to winning this long horrific and absolutely terrifying battle. Despite all the odds being stacked against him moose has defied death and continued to fight he is so close to finally reaching the light at the end of a very long dark tunnel. We are asking for donations for his surgery to correct the defect in his throat known as an elongated soft plate. Without the surgery moose is guaranteed to pass away. This puppy deserves a fighting chance to finally live a happy and healthy life and now that we have the answers we needed and a solution ahead we would greatly appreciate all the help we can get in saving moose’s life. Thank you guys for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance to anyone who has donated we sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sincerely
Kelly, Kyle, and Moose
