Give Moon a Chance at a New Life

Everyone say hi to Moon!

I've been procrastinating on this post because I don't know the outcome and I don't have the answer... But in uncertain times, I want to believe that I can come to my community and ask for help. I've been in Rescue a long time and it's easy to be jaded with these things - but I will try anyway. Because when we ask for help, we also give others permission to ask us - and this is how true community is built.

I was made aware of Moon's situation from my client Kendall. Her owner was detained by ICE about 6 weeks ago. He has a wife who is due any day now, and has 2 pre-teen daughters. They had to move out of their home into a tiny apartment with the wife's mother for help when the baby comes.

This man is not going to be there for the birth of his daughter, is never going to see his dogs again, and it's looking like he may never be allowed back into the states. Can you imagine your partner being ripped away from you without warning - then have to be the sole person dealing with the fall out? Some of us can't even comprehend that.

Moon is one of two GSDs that are owned by this family. One was friendly and went into foster with GHGSDR and then there is Moon - who is afraid of the world. Because she is afraid, she has nipped at people to tell them "Back up I'm scared!" and this has made rescues wary of bringing her into their program.

I get it.
Dogs with no behavior issues are dying daily in shelters here due to lack of space.

But I wanted to put my money where my mouth is - and help her find another place to live. Just because she is scared, she doesn't deserve to die. This girl is snuggly, goofy, loves fetch and rotisserie chicken.

I agreed to keep Moon for 1 week without charge and give an assessment of her to help her find placement. That was over 2 weeks ago because when she first was dropped off she was so fearful of me I couldn't even look in her eyes for more than 3 seconds without growling. You can't blame her - she has only ever known her backyard and her humans. But slowly, and surely, we've been able to work together and find a connection.

If you can help, link is in Bio/DM me. Stay tuned for more Moon content
