Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister Karen and her beautiful, resilient dog Mochi. Mochi has been her loyal companion for years, a true source of comfort, love, and happiness. But now Mochi is suffering—badly—and Karen is doing everything she can to help her, despite overwhelming medical costs.
Mochi has a severe, chronic skin condition caused by an undiagnosed allergy that has spiraled out of control. She’s been through everything:
Apoquel, Cytopoint injections
Medicated shampoos (miconazole/chlorhexidine)
Antifungal wipes and mousse
Numerous rounds of antibiotics and antifungal tablets (which upset her stomach)
Steroids
And most recently, immunosuppressant medication (cyclosporine) for the past 3–4 months, which sadly is no longer helping.
Over the last two months, her condition has worsened significantly. Her symptoms are heartbreaking: constant licking, raw and bleeding paws, hair loss, thick black and purple skin, crusting, flaking, yeast infections causing a strong odor, and raised bumps. She’s been wearing a cone constantly just to prevent her from hurting herself further.
She’s now on a strict prescription diet (hydrolyzed protein or potato & rabbit from Royal Canin), but nothing has brought lasting relief.
At this point, the only next step is a full surgical workup under anesthesia to perform both blood and skin allergy testing—where pieces of her skin will be biopsied and tested to try to pinpoint the allergens causing her so much pain. But there’s no guarantee even this will solve the issue.
Still, it’s her best shot.
Here’s a breakdown of just some of the upcoming costs:
Blood allergy testing only: $1,174
Skin allergy testing only: $1,460
Combined testing (recommended): $2,273
Total with medications, cultures, skin cytology, lab work, and anesthesia: Over $3,000
Karen has already spent thousands trying everything. Unfortunately, Mochi's condition is considered “pre-existing,” so insurance won’t cover any of it.
We’re asking for your help—whether it’s through donations or simply sharing this story. Every dollar will go directly toward Mochi’s treatment and care. Karen would never ask for help unless it was absolutely necessary, but Mochi is family. She deserves relief, and a chance at a pain-free life.
Thank you for reading, caring, and supporting in whatever way you can.
With love,
Albert
