Each year hundreds of people, mostly children and senior citizens, lose their legs in the Ecuadorian rainforest. Most of these losses are the result of snake bites or motorcycle accidents, with a small number caused by birth defects and diabetes. This year the Penipe Foundation will help 25 of these people to regain their mobility through prosthetic legs.
The most rewarding feeling is providing a helping hand and directly improving a person’s life. The Penipe Foundation receives donated prosthetics through University Surgical Associates in Chattanooga. These prosthetics range from $12,000 to $25,000. Where the Foundation needs your help is in fundraising for the customized sockets that fit over the recipients’ limbs where the prosthetics will then be placed. The sockets need be made in Ecuador, according to each leg size. The Foundation needs around $300 for each beneficiary, so roughly $7,000 to produce sockets for all 25 recipients. We have already fundraised for 7 recipients.
No donation is too small as it will all help someone in the Ecuadorian rainforest receive renewed mobility!
