Hi, my name is Wendy.

On Monday, August 11th, I found an abandoned puppy and brought her home. I kept her overnight, and by morning, I noticed a lump on the right side of her face. I also had a gut feeling something wasn’t right with her heart.

We got her to the vet, who diagnosed the lump as an infected scratch—possibly caused by trauma. But then he listened to her heart and gave us devastating news: she has a serious congenital defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). In simple terms, it means a blood vessel that should close after birth remains open, causing abnormal blood flow between the aorta and pulmonary artery. If left untreated, PDA leads to heart failure and often death before the age of one—likely sooner in her case.

PDA also stunts growth and limits activity. The only treatment is open-heart surgery.

(Her sister, by the way, had a healthy vet visit and is doing great.)

I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t at least try to save her. If, for any reason, she passes away before we reach our goal, I will refund your donation—unless you’re okay with me donating any remaining funds to a couple of reputable rescues, with proof provided.

I’ve contacted shelters and rescue organizations, hoping they could take her and provide the care she needs. Unfortunately, most are nonprofit and simply can’t afford a surgery this costly. I’ve also looked into grants, but they require proof of financial hardship. While I’m stretched thin with bills, my income doesn’t meet their criteria.

The surgery is estimated to cost between $2,500 and $5,000. I have the vet paperwork confirming her diagnosis.

Minnie is 10-12 weeks old. She weighs 3 pounds. She loves to eat and bring her toys where ever we go.
