Give Miles A Pain-Free Life: Support His Hip Surgery.
Donation protected
Meet Miles—a shy, silly, and incredibly resilient one-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix. His journey hasn’t been easy, but he’s fought through every challenge life has thrown at him.
At just three months old, Miles found himself in a crowded county shelter, where he spent two months in a small kennel, facing the uncertainty that so many shelter dogs do. Exposed to parvo from a kennel mate and overlooked by adopters for being shy, he was placed on the euthanasia list—simply because there wasn’t enough space for him and he was "parvo exposed."
The moment we saw his sweet face on that list, we knew we couldn't let him die. The very next day, we adopted him, naming him Miles for the many miles of hiking we imagined we would go on.
But those dreams were put on hold.
At just nine months old, Miles started limping. After multiple vet visits, X-rays, and consultations with specialists, we received the devastating news: Miles has severe hip dysplasia. His hip socket only covers 30% of the ball joint. It is grinding and not functioning properly, meaning every step he takes causes pain. His condition is rapidly worsening, and we’ve had to limit his activity—no more long hikes, or rough puppy play dates, just short, careful walks.
Both Orthopedic Vets are recommending a total hip replacement. This surgery would give Miles the pain-free life he deserves, allowing him to move, run, and play like any young dog should. However, the cost is overwhelming—$15,000—and because we didn’t have pet insurance before his diagnosis, it’s now considered a pre-existing condition and isn’t covered.
We never imagined we'd be in this position, but we refuse to give up on our pup. We are doing everything we can, including selling personal belongings—even our RV—to help cover the cost. But we can't do it alone.
This is where we have to put aside our pride, no matter how uncomfortable it makes us and ask for your help.
If you are able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to us. Every dollar brings us closer to getting Miles the surgery he so desperately needs. If you can’t donate, please share his story—getting the word out is just as powerful.
Miles has already overcome so much, and with your support, he can have the chance to run, play, and live a life free from pain.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting our boy.
With gratitude,
Amber and Patrick
