Meet Maxine — Help Us Give Her a Second Chance

I’ve never done this before. Asking for help doesn’t come easily to me, but today I’m setting my pride aside because Maxine needs us.

Maxine was found wandering a golf course near a riverbed, hidden in overgrown brush. For at least two weeks, she survived the heat by hiding in the course and even lying in algae to stay cool.

A kind Good Samaritan finally trapped her, scanned her for a microchip, and found none. She reached out to us after noticing Maxine’s extreme weakness and what looked like large bumps on her body.

When I saw her myself, I realized those “bumps” weren’t bumps at all—they were her bones.

She was severely emaciated, covered in ticks and matted fur, yet still incredibly gentle and sweet. I knew she deserved a chance.

I brought her home, gave her a meal, and she was reported to the shelter—but no one has come forward for her.

At the vet, we learned Maxine has a long road ahead:

• Severe double ear infections

• Grade 2 heart murmur

• Open sores on her paws

• Severe malnutrition and weakness

• Signs she may have been used for breeding and then discarded

She has started treatment and received initial care, but still needs ongoing medical support, testing, and eventually a spay once she is strong enough.

Her vet bills are already adding up, and more care is ahead.

What we do know is that Maxine likely never experienced the life every dog deserves—walks, play, a soft bed, or a safe and loving home. It seems she may have spent most of her life confined and used for breeding before being abandoned.

But we believe she still has so much life left in her.

With time, patience, medical care, and love, we are confident Maxine will learn what it means to simply be a dog again.

She deserves kindness.

She deserves safety.

She deserves a spa day.

She deserves a warm bed and a family.

She deserves a second chance at life. ❤️
