Our beautiful cat, Maurice, suffered a devastating injury on Sunday that changed his life forever.

When we found him, he was critically injured and had to be rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital. The veterinary team fought to save him, but the damage to one of his legs was so severe that they had no option but to amputate it.

During the operation Maurice also suffered a dangerous drop in blood pressure, so he is now being closely monitored while the vets make sure his kidneys and liver recover. Right now, we're simply grateful that he came through the surgery.

The vets have told us that, based on the pattern of his injuries, they believe it is likely he was shot. We don't know exactly what happened, and the matter has been reported to the police, but our only focus is giving Maurice every chance to recover.

Like many families, we never imagined we'd be facing an emergency veterinary bill of around £5,000. We believed we had pet insurance, but despite searching through our records we have been unable to find an active policy.

We're asking for help so that we can focus on Maurice's recovery rather than worrying about how to pay for the emergency treatment that saved his life.
