UPDATE: It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of my mother, Maria, who lost her battle with cancer this morning. We are all heartbroken and at a loss for words, but we find comfort in knowing she is now at rest and free from pain.
I want to express my gratitude to everyone who generously donated to my mother’s GoFundMe. Unfortunately, we were unable to recover the previously donated funds. Since she is no longer with us, all contributions will now go toward her funeral expenses.
Thank you for your support during this difficult time.
We are reaching out with a heavy heart to share our mother, Maria's journey, which has taken an unexpected turn.
In March 2024, she began experiencing excruciating stomach pain, making eating nearly impossible. Initially, we thought it was indigestion, but the severity escalated until even water became a challenge to tolerate.
After several trips to the urgent care and a local hospital, we decided to take her to UCSF, where tests were performed, including biopsies, endoscopy, and scans. We got the news that no one would ever want to hear: she was diagnosed with a rare and advanced stage 4 metastatic small intestine cancer, which has spread to other vital organs. The prognosis is heartbreaking; her Cancer is incurable and inoperable. Our only hope now is to initiate chemotherapy and possibly radiation to slow its progression and prolong her time with us.
Overnight, our lives changed; the harsh reality of losing our mother to Cancer hit us like a ton of bricks. We've decided to leave no stone unturned to ensure she receives the best possible care to give us more time with her.
We've made the difficult decision to pursue chemotherapy and explore a second opinion, knowing that these treatments will not only cause emotional strain but also a considerable financial burden. We have decided to seek alternative treatment in Texas at the Burzynski Clinic since she was informed that chemo and radiation treatments are not guaranteed to work as the Cancer has already spread. It's a chance to extend her life beyond the given timeline. Unfortunately, the costs associated with these options are not covered by insurance, adding an additional layer of stress to our already rough journey.
Your generous contributions will be utilized to cover all expenses incurred, including medical bills, transportation costs, medication expenses, and all other essential needs. Despite these challenges, our commitment to our mother's health remains firm, and we are determined to exhaust every available resource to support her in this battle against Cancer.
We humbly ask for your support in raising funds to help with the financial burden accompanying this journey. Your contribution, whether through sharing our mother's story, donating, or offering prayers, means the world to us. Every gesture of kindness, no matter how small, brings us closer to easing her path during this trying time.
We are deeply grateful for your help and solidarity as we navigate this challenging chapter together.
