For most of her 2.5 yrs of life up until this point, Mama Rose was the victim of heartless breeding practices. When she was no longer wanted, she was thrown out like literal trash. By the time we found her in a field, she had another litter of 5 puppies, was dangerously emaciated, covered in ticks, and the state of her skin was terrible. The poor thing had Ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease. She also had double bearing weight on her left back leg due to a complete Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) tear inside her right knee. This tear has already resulted in some arthritis for Rose.
All of this is so sad, given how sweet and playful she is despite her pain. Luckily she made her way from Oklahoma to Big Bones Canine Rescue in Colorado through our rescue partner. Big Bones has gotten her into a loving foster home, covered the costs for antibiotics to treat her Ehrlichia, and has helped her wean her puppies and get spayed, so she never has to bear another litter of puppies.
The CCL tear is too severe though and can only be treated through Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery, which will cost about $4,000 - more than the rescue can afford. Mama Rose is kind to cats, dogs, and children. She is a great candidate for adoption and has many years of life in front of her. That said, it is very difficult for any potential adopter to take on the burden and cost of surgery when there are other healthy dogs up for adoption. This precious girl deserves forever family and a life without pain, but we can't do it without you. Please help us give her a chance.
