Hi folks, my name is Carissa Myers and I have the honor of being a mom to my sassy, food-loving miniature goldendoodle Lux. She’s a “young senior” at the age of 7. Lux has her preferences: McDonald’s Fries over Wendy’s Fries (once a golden always a golden) and thinks I should stop drinking wine and spend more time giving her treats – like what’s wrong with a Starbucks pup cup. Lux prefers 50% of every bed, loves to go on long walks, and she loves going shopping and adventures. Anyone who meets her most likely will pay a “petting tax”, her rules not mine, or she’ll potentially paw you.
On Monday, Sept. 22nd, Lux was diagnosed with an oral mass/tumor by Dr. Rivers at the Groveport Animal Clinic. After two previous visits with vets and vet techs at different clinics over the past couple of weeks, the tumor was finally detected. I know my girl, and Dr. Rivers trusted me and supported me in advocating for her. Thanks to Dr. Rivers and her team, who made calls to surgeons in the area and ran the necessary tests, Lux was able to meet a surgical team the very next day.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23rd, the surgical team at MedVet confirmed that Lux has a melanoma, which requires surgery this Friday, September 26th. The surgery will remove the tumor along with the left side of her jaw. The good news is that this surgery, along with post-surgery cancer treatment, will allow Lux to eat, drink and play normally - giving her 1-3 more years of her joyful life. Her cancer is treatable, though not curable.
While Lux has been brave, resilient and full of love throughout this process, the cost of her treatment is overwhelming. We’re hoping to raise any amount of the costs, which includes $8800 for the surgery, the $4000-$6000 for the post-surgery cancer treatment, or any other care that will follow (i.e., her post-surgery follow up, booster cancer vaccines shots). Every dollar will go directly to giving Lux the care she needs to stay with us longer and continue living her happy, sassy life.
Even if you can’t donate, sharing Lux’s story helps us reach more people who want to help. Thank you for supporting Lux and helping her fight this battle.
Every little bit helps and Lux sends her sass and love along! My girl is a fighter, and she’s not done making us smile yet❤️
