On August 5th 2024, on her 6th birthday, Lucy Lou was diagnosed with what we were originally told, Lymphoma.
On August 14th we got in to see the Oncologist who told us it was not lymphoma but Anal sac adenocarcinoma. Which it turns out is a super common cancer in Cavaliers.
Since Lucy was ironically our healthy cavalier (physical wise, Lucy actually has severe PTSD and night terrors from her previous life before rescue) we chose to do the surgery that they recommended.
Lucy goes every three months for a check up, ultrasound, and radiographs of her lungs ($1500-1,700) at the oncologist. And they have added the radiographs every 6 weeks now ($900-1200). Plus bloodwork when they want it.
Lucy does have insurance, without it there is no way we could be doing this. But, no surprise her rate when way up (as did our other dogs). So we had to change the deductible on all the pups and get less % back so that we could keep them all on.
Her rate is coming up next month and I’m super nervous what that will jump to, so I’m adding what I think a year of it will cost as well.
For those that don’t know I run a food blog. I run it for the sole purpose of paying for the dogs vet visits, meds, grooming, supplements, food, etc. And the money I made from that has afforded us the ability to do that. Until the last 18 months when AI has taken over the food blogging world. My income is down now to 1/4 of what it was at this time last year. And so sadly, I must do another GFM to keep Lucy going.
If you can’t give but still want to help you can visit my food blog https://www.sweetrecipeas.com/ ….the more pages you visit the better.
If you can spare some we greatly appreciate it, as at just 7 years old (and coming from an absolutely dreadful life before getting into rescue) Lucy deserves more time getting to feel loved and safe.
