Help Save Lt Dan: A French Bulldog's Fight Against Swimmer's Syndrome

We are reaching out for your support to help save the life of a 13-week-old French Bulldog who has been diagnosed with Swimmer's Syndrome, resulting in severe orthopedic deformities. Due to the lack of proper care provided by the breeder when symptoms first appeared, Lt Dan now faces the heartbreaking reality of requiring life-changing surgery on all four of his limbs in hopes of regaining the ability to walk and live a healthy, fulfilling life.

What is Swimmer's Syndrome?

Swimmer's Syndrome is a rare condition that causes puppies to be unable to hold their limbs properly, making them appear to "swim" when they try to move. This condition typically affects the ability to walk, stand, or even maintain balance. For a puppy like Lt Dan, it means he cannot run, play, or even explore his world like any other healthy dog.

The Current Situation

At just 13 weeks old, Lt Dan should be exploring his world, growing stronger, and enjoying his first experiences. But instead, he can't stand, walk, or run. He can only manage to scoot across the floor. After the breeder failed to seek immediate medical attention when signs first appeared, his condition worsened, and now his only chance at a "normal life" is through multiple surgeries on all four limbs to restore proper function.

These surgeries are critical not just to his ability to walk, but to his overall quality of life. Without them, Lt Dan will continue to suffer and will not be able to lead the joyful, active life he deserves.

The Plan

We’ve consulted with the Orthopedic team at The University of Florida, and the recommended course of action includes:

Surgery on all four limbs to correct the misalignment and restore functionality.

Extensive physical therapy to help him regain strength and mobility after surgery.

Continual care and monitoring to ensure proper healing and long-term recovery.

Several round trip trips to UF a week for several weeks

The total cost of these life-changing surgeries and post-operative care is expected to be approximately $10,000. This includes the surgeries, hospital stays, and rehabilitation. While we are doing everything we can to make sure Lt Dan gets the care he desperately needs, we can’t do it alone.
