Hi everyone — my name is Haley, and this is our boy, Louie. He’s almost 3 years old, a rescue, and truly one of the brightest parts of our lives. He is the kind of dog who loves with his whole heart. He greets every person like they’re his best friend, he smiles (he really does), and even though he’s 80 pounds, he insists on curling up in your lap. Anyone who meets him immediately falls in love, and people always say, “I want a Lulu!”

Last month, Louie tore his CCL, which is basically the dog version of an ACL tear. He went from a goofy, energetic, happy boy to barely being able to walk without pain. He’s been spending most of his time lying in bed, which is so unlike him. What breaks my heart even more is knowing that if we have to wait too long for surgery, there’s a 60% chance he’ll tear the ligament in his other leg too.

I wish more than anything that we could just fix this for him. It hurts to see him hurting and confused about why he can’t run or play. And it hurts knowing there’s a solution, but that we can’t afford it on our own right now.

This is incredibly embarrassing for me. I’m not someone who asks for help. I’ve always been the one who figures it out, makes it work, and pushes through. But I was recently laid off from my job, and the timing couldn’t have been worse. We’ve tried everything we can think of, but we’re still far from being able to cover the $6,000 he needs for surgery.

I’m asking for help because I love Louie more than I can explain, and I just want him to have his happy life back — to walk without pain, to run, to play, to be the silly, sweet boy he’s always been. He deserves that.
