Give Lily Hope: Urgent Surgery for Her Legs

Hi, my name is Yamely Brenes, and I’m fundraising for my sweet girl Lily — my 6-year-old baby and best friend. I rescued Lily when she was just a puppy from a bad home, and she’s been by my side ever since. She’s not just a pet — she’s my heart, my family, and my constant companion.

Yesterday, something terrifying happened. Lily woke up unable to use her back legs. We had gone to sleep like any normal night, but when I woke up, she was quietly scooting across the bed — not in pain, but completely unable to move her back legs.

I rushed her to the emergency vet, where we were told she likely has a compressed or herniated disk, potentially caused by a degenerative disk disease. She was immediately referred to a neurologist and is now being closely followed. Unfortunately, her condition has gotten worse. She’s now losing sensation in her back legs and her prognosis has dropped from an 85% chance of recovery to just 50%.

The most frightening part is that there’s a small but real risk — about 4% — that the degeneration could move upward toward her chest, which could eventually affect her ability to breathe on her own. That possibility is the most horrific.

Lily now urgently needs back surgery to have any real chance at walking again — and hopefully avoid further neurological decline. The cost of the diagnostics, neurologist consultations, and the surgery itself are far beyond what I can manage on my own right now.

If you’ve ever met Lily, you know she’s the gentlest soul — sweet, affectionate, and wouldn’t hurt a fly. She’s adored by everyone who knows her, and she’s everything to me.
