“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5
Our family from Guam is walking by faith through one of the hardest seasons of our lives.
Our son Liam was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism at age 3 and was considered non-verbal at the time. Within two years, he was also diagnosed with ADHD. Hearing those diagnoses changed our world forever.
As parents, we were scared — but we were determined.
Through love, prayer, and relentless effort, Liam has made progress over the years. Today he has begun speaking. Every word he says is a victory. Every small breakthrough feels like a miracle.
But those victories did not come easily.
Because the therapy services Liam desperately needs are extremely limited to nonexistent on Guam, I have taken on more than any parent should have to carry alone. I have completed countless free online classes, attended trainings and autism conferences, and spent endless hours researching so I could help my son.
Not only as his mother — but also as his therapist, advocate, and teacher.
Hello, my name is Amanda Buccat, and
I am Liam’s mom.
But I am also:
• His Speech Therapist
• His Occupational Therapist
• His ABA Specialist
• His Advocate
• His Researcher
• His Teacher
• His Everything
The overwhelming truth is that it is too much for one parent to carry alone.
On Guam there is currently:
• No in-person occupational therapy available
• The limited Zoom OT services have stopped
• Very limited speech therapy in schools due to lack of providers
• No ABA services offered in schools
• Critical shortages of 1-on-1 aides
These therapies & services are NOT OPTIONAL. They are ESSENTIAL.
Occupational therapy helps with daily living skills and sensory challenges.
Speech therapy builds communication and confidence.
ABA therapy provides structured support for behavior and independence.
Without consistent professional therapy, Liam risks losing the progress he has worked so hard to make.
Liam’s story is just one of many on the beautiful island of Guam where children and adults with autism are being deprived of the services and medical care they need to succeed.
As a mother, I am simply believing that Jesus can make a way where there seems to be no way.
After much prayer, we believe God is leading our family to relocate to the United States so Liam can finally receive the consistent therapy services he needs.
This decision breaks our hearts.
Leaving Guam means leaving our home, our community, and everything familiar. But we cannot allow geography to determine our son’s future. Four years of missed therapies and unavailable services have already cost Liam precious time that he cannot get back.
Sometimes faith means stepping into the unknown.
We are raising funds to help cover:
• Relocation costs to the United States
• Therapy evaluations and assessments
• Start-Speech, Occupational, and ABA therapy
• Travel and temporary housing while we transition
• Statt-Essential support services Liam cannot receive on Guam
Every donation, no matter how small, helps bring Liam closer to the support he needs to build his future.
If you are unable to donate, sharing Liam’s story would mean so much to our family.
Thank you for standing with us, praying for us, and helping us give Liam the voice and opportunities he deserves.
With faith and gratitude,
Amanda Buccat
