Help Us Save Leroy

On Thursday, our sweet Leroy suddenly became very ill. He stopped eating, seemed distressed, and kept trying to lie down in his stall. Our vet came right away and treated him for colic, but within hours it was clear something much more serious was happening.

We rushed him to Littleton Equine, where we were given devastating news — they believed he had a strangulating lesion in his small intestine. The only options were emergency surgery or humane euthanasia. Given Leroy’s age, surgery wasn’t a realistic choice for him. We made the heartbreaking decision that if we could make him comfortable, we’d give him one night to see if there was any hope for improvement.

Thankfully, Leroy showed some signs of improvement overnight. The vets now believe it may not be a strangulation, but his small intestine is still severely inflamed, and they don’t yet know why. He remains in the ICU, still not eating, and still fighting. The cost of his treatment is climbing quickly, but we want to give him every possible chance to recover.
