Give King a Pain-Free Future

This is King, a 10 year old yorkie. He went to the vet recently where it was discovered that he has a mass in his testicles and a perineal hernia, so now he needs surgery. Most specialists are asking for around $1,600 just for a hands on assessment to take a look at his hernia, do some pre-op tests, and then another $6,500 for the surgery. They will neuter him while he’s under anesthesia, get it all done in one go so he doesn’t have to have two separate surgeries. Any extra funds will go toward his post-op appointment and his recovery. ❤️‍

Now, let me tell you a little bit about King’s story. He is the spunkiest little “Dorkie”, as we call him, and so full of energy. I started watching him back in May of ‘23 for someone while they went out on deployment for 8 months. Over that 8 months, we received very little feedback from his owner and even less financial support for his care. But we took care of him as if he were our own regardless. We got him vaccinated, got him on a medicated diet for his tummy issues, groomed regularly, took him to the vet for ouchies he had gotten, had matching gear with our personal dogs, he went to work with me on a weekly basis. Spoiled him rotten. January ‘24, he went back to his original home, as deployment had ended and it was time to part ways with him. Sent him back with all of the vaccine and vet paperwork we had for him and all of the things we’d bought for him over 8 months.

Fast Forward to Sept ‘24 and I’m asked if we can watch him again, this time for one three weeks. We agreed. In Oct I picked him up and brought him back my house. His vaccines were expired so we promptly got those updated. He was no longer on the medicated diet that was prescribed by a vet the last time we had him, he was on a completely different brand of food. We thought, “well, we only have him for three weeks, we’d hate to upset his tummy by changing his food.” so he has stayed on said food. In December, we took him to the vet for a small eye injury caused from grooming. We paid the bill ourselves. In December, we noticed that he was having trouble with going to the bathroom, so off to the vet we go. Paid that visit ourselves. Reached out to his owner, trying to gauge the situation as best I could, let her know that he went to the vet, trying to determine when she was coming to get him since we are now 4 weeks past the 3 week pick up timeframe. This was and still is the ONLY time i have received any form of communication from her since October when I picked him up. There was no mention of picking him up, just a “thank you for letting me know.” Well… okay then.

King was still having problems with going to the bathroom. When he went, it was rock hard, bloody, and just small little bits. His rectum was off center and puffy. We tried pumpkin, veggies, stool softeners, anything we were prescribed or recommended by the vets. He was screaming in pain anytime he passed a movement. So, off to the vet we go again. On Feb 7, I took him back to the vet, where they found a mass in his stomach and a hernia. We did an ultrasound to take a look at the mass, to determine if it is surgical or not, because now we need to start planning ahead. It is found that he has an enlarged prostate, a perineal hernia, and a mass in his testicles. If he were my dog, those peanuts would’ve been looong gone, but now they definitely gotta go. Reached out to his owner the same day, informing her of what is going on and asking her if she wants to pay for these surgeries or if she wants us to assume ownership and do it ourselves. She read the message immediately but still hasn’t responded. No response is a response, I guess? So now we’re here, asking for help to make this little dork feel better and go potty without causing any pain.
