Give Karin time with her family

Days after Karin Khuong’s 14th birthday doctors at Vancouver’s Children’s Hospital determined swelling in her leg and soreness in her back was caused by a childhood cancer, stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma. The subtype of rhabdomyosarcoma that Karin has is so rare, that experts from around the world are being consulted on a treatment plan.

The treatment is expected to be year-long. It will be exhausting for Karin and for her family. Karin will be isolated from all but a few individuals because of her weakened immune system. Grade 9 at Terry Fox Secondary has been cancelled and visits with friends will become a health risk.

Karin has a difficult battle ahead of her and she needs help. Karin and her parents should be together helping each other fight this awful disease. Please financially support Karin’s parents, Jen and Anthony, to give the family the precious gift of time together. All funds raised will go directly to Jen and Anthony Khuong, enabling Jen, and hopefully Anthony, to take leaves from their jobs to  be with Karin, focused on fighting the physical and emotional battle ahead of them.

Karin is a kid full of life. She’s talkative, spunky and some would even say feisty. Known as 2K to her basketball teammates, Karin led VK Basketball Carkner to the 2018 U-14 JR. NBA Canadian Championship where they lost by three points to Ontario in the national final. It’s stunning to think she competed as hard as she did while carrying cancerous tumors in her body.

In Port Coquitlam, BC, Karin has been a positive force in the community. My name is Steve Frost and my daughter, Kianna, has been best friends with Karin since pre-school. I have known the family since that time. My wife coaches Karin and Kianna in club basketball and at Terry Fox Secondary. Karin participated in the Team Teal leadership program at Citadel Middle and she helped coach basketball to grade 3 and 4 students at Castle Park Elementary. The community needs more kids like her.

The Frost family thanks you for taking the time to read this and thanks you in advance for any contribution you can make to help Karin. We are grateful for your generosity and for your prayers.
