Give Joann Hope in Her Fight with ALS

For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Joann, let me give you a glimpse of who she is. At 39 years old, she’s a vibrant mother with a heart of gold. She has worked as a teacher’s assistant for special needs students, and her passion for helping others—both inside and outside the classroom—brings her great joy. Whether she’s supporting a fundraiser, feeding elderly residents in her building, or always being there for friends and family, Joann’s generosity and kindness always shines through.

We come to you with a heartfelt request for help as our beloved Joann battles Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a devastating neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle weakness, atrophy, and then paralysis.

While there are approved treatments for ALS, none have shown to be reliably effective. We are exploring promising off-label treatments that may offer Joann a better quality of life and potentially slow the progression of this relentless disease. These treatments, though hopeful, come with significant costs that are not covered by insurance.

Why We Need Your Help:

1. Cost of Off-Label Treatments: These treatments, though not FDA-approved specifically for ALS, have shown potential in clinical studies or through anecdotal evidence. However, they can be very expensive, and our insurance does not cover these costs.

2. Medical Consultations and Tests: To pursue these treatments, Joann requires consultations with specialized medical professionals, additional diagnostic tests, and ongoing monitoring, all of which add to the financial burden.

3. Medication and Supplements: The cost of the medications and supplements involved in these off-label treatments can be substantial. We want to ensure Joann has access to every possible resource that might improve her condition.
