Hi, my name is Trish, my husband Jason and I have a 9 yr old son that has a very medically complex background. JJ was born at 25 weeks weighing 2lbs 2oz, He spent a total of 110 days in the NICU. Was eventually diagnosed with Hydrocephalus (currently has two vp shunts regulating this condition and has had 22 shunt revision surgeries), Epilepsy (He will be having an RNS device implanted within the next 3 months to hopefully help regulate his seizures), Cerebral Palsy, Non Verbal and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
A year ago JJ stopped eating and started dropping weight, this led to numerous stays in the hospital trying to figure out what is happening. Ultimately leading to an upcoming surgery to implant a Gtube so we can help JJ get the nutrition that his body needs.
On top of his already complicated medical history, JJ has been diagnosed with failure to thrive, he has spent the last 30 days in the hospital, two weeks of which he was in the PICU due to complications from a procedure done in the hospital, and we don't know at this point when he will be going home. Being in the hospital and confined to his bed for the majority of this time has caused some more complications with JJ's hips that have made it very difficult for him to get around and stand for long periods. We do know that once we do go home some changes need to be made to make our home easier for JJ. We are raising funds to help get JJ a bed more suited for him and easier for him to get in and out of that also can inform us when JJ is having a seizure. We also will be adding some additions to our bathroom to make the shower safer for him. These are items unfortunately we haven't had luck in getting covered by insurance. We are hopeful his new car seat and the stroller will be covered items but for now, our home and his bed are a big priority for him and us. Those that know JJ know that his independence is a big deal to him, this boy never stops moving and learning and we want more than anything to continue to give JJ that ability.
If you can help we appreciate it so much, thank you!!
Love The Deublers (Jason, Trish, JJ and Ryland)
