Give Jamic a Chance to Live – Emergency Surgery Needed

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

I never thought I’d have to write something like this, but I’m reaching out with an urgent request to help save the life of someone very dear to me.

My friend Jamic, who lives in Kampala, Uganda, has been diagnosed with colon cancer. Thankfully, this cancer can be treated with a surgery that is usually safe and effective—but only if he can access it soon. The total cost for the operation is 26.7 million Ugandan shillings, which is about $7,025 USD or $9,500 CAD—a massive sum where he lives.

So far, Jamic has managed to raise and spend nearly 12 million UGX (~$3,160 USD / ~$4,300 CAD) on chemotherapy and other treatments just to slow the spread of the disease while he tries to secure the funds for surgery. But the longer he waits, the more his savings are drained on temporary care—and the more the cancer advances. He now urgently needs about 10.5 million UGX, which equals approximately $2,765 USD or $3,750 CAD to make the surgery happen. But again, this amount decreases each week as he pays for treatments—so we are setting a target of $5,000 CAD to ensure there is enough to cover the full procedure, immediate recovery costs, and support for his family.

Unlike many of us, Jamic has no access to public healthcare or bank loans. In Uganda, there is no universal health system, and without a credit history, financial institutions won't help. The good news? As soon as he can pay, he only has to wait two days to get the surgery. The bad news? Every day of delay is costing him both financially and physically.

Who is Jamic?
Jamic is the eldest of a large family who lost their mother a few years ago. He’s a talented photographer and a resilient human being who’s overcome many challenges already. I’ve known him for over 10 years—he studied with people in my family, and we’ve been in touch ever since. He’s kind, smart, and always putting others first. Now it’s time we help him.

How you can help
I’ve already sent him $500 from my own savings, even though I don’t have a steady income right now. I’m not asking you to do the same, but even $10, $20, or any amount truly makes a difference. It adds up.

Please consider donating or sharing this campaign with your networks. Your contribution could literally save a life.

Thank you so much for reading, for caring, and for helping Jamic get the second chance he deserves.

With all my heart,
Karine
